Quick answerThe best 4 nights 5 days Kashmir route is 2 nights Srinagar, 1 night Gulmarg and 1 night Pahalgam, or, for fewer hotel changes, 3 nights Srinagar and 1 night Pahalgam with Gulmarg as a day trip. Expect ₹10,000–15,000 per person on a budget and ₹17,000–28,000 mid-range, excluding flights.
If Kashmir trips were cricket formats, three nights would be a T20 and seven nights a Test match. Four nights is the one-day international: long enough for a proper innings, short enough to fit into a single week of leave. It is the most popular length for first-time visitors for a reason.
The trick with four nights is to choose your overnights carefully. Gulmarg and Pahalgam are on opposite sides of Srinagar, about 140 km and 4–5 hours apart by road, so you never want to drive directly between them on a short trip.
Drive times you need to know
| Route | Distance | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Srinagar airport to Dal Lake | about 15 km | 30–45 min |
| Srinagar to Gulmarg | about 50 km | 1.5–2 hours |
| Srinagar to Pahalgam | about 95 km | 2.5–3 hours |
| Srinagar to Sonamarg | about 80 km | 2.5–3 hours |
| Gulmarg to Pahalgam (via Srinagar) | about 140 km | 4–5 hours |
Route A: Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam (most variety)
| Day | Plan | Overnight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive, houseboat check-in, sunset shikara ride | Srinagar houseboat |
| 2 | Drive to Gulmarg, Gulmarg Gondola, evening on the meadow | Gulmarg |
| 3 | Back through Srinagar to Pahalgam (lunch stop in Srinagar) | Pahalgam |
| 4 | Aru and Betaab valleys by union taxi, return to Srinagar, Mughal gardens if time allows | Srinagar hotel |
| 5 | Old city or shopping, airport | - |
Day 3 is the long one. Splitting it with lunch in Srinagar makes it far more pleasant, especially with children or older parents.
Route B: Srinagar base with one Pahalgam night (fewer bags to pack)
| Day | Plan | Overnight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive, houseboat, shikara ride | Srinagar houseboat |
| 2 | Gulmarg day trip with the gondola | Srinagar hotel |
| 3 | Drive to Pahalgam via the Pampore saffron fields and Avantipora ruins | Pahalgam |
| 4 | Aru and Betaab valleys in the morning, return to Srinagar | Srinagar hotel |
| 5 | Mughal gardens and Shankaracharya Temple, airport | - |
Route B suits families and anyone who hates repacking. Route A suits couples who want to wake up in Gulmarg at least once, which, in snow season, is a very good reason.
Pahalgam in 2026: what is open
Pahalgam town, the Lidder riverside, Aru Valley and Betaab Valley are open to visitors. The Anantnag district's latest closure list (7 July 2026) includes Chandanwari and Baisaran, with an end date of 31 December 2026, so do not plan around them without checking, and be wary of anyone selling them as part of a package. Outside cabs drop you at your Pahalgam hotel; for Aru and Betaab you hire a local union taxi. A combined Aru and Betaab trip typically costs a few thousand rupees per vehicle, depending on the car. Agree the stops and waiting time before you set off.
Gulmarg Gondola without the drama
- Tickets are online only; book phase 1 first, then phase 2.
- Phase 1 goes to Kongdori. Phase 2 climbs to Apharwat at nearly 4,000 m and can close in bad weather.
- Go early. Queues and clouds both build after 11 am.
- If budget is tight, phase 1 alone already gives superb views.
What a 4 nights 5 days package costs
| Style | Stay | Per person (excluding flights) |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Standard houseboat, 2–3 star hotels | ₹10,000–15,000 |
| Mid-range | Deluxe houseboat, 3–4 star hotels | ₹17,000–28,000 |
| Luxury | Luxury houseboat, 5-star and boutique resorts | ₹36,000 and up |
Based on two people sharing a room, breakfast and dinner, and a private sedan. A group of four sharing one cab pays noticeably less per head. Gulmarg hotels cost more than Srinagar hotels, so Route B is usually a little cheaper. Check our package inclusions checklist before comparing quotes.
Best season for 4 nights

Frequently asked questions
Is 4 nights enough for Kashmir?
Yes. Four nights covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam if you plan the overnights so you never drive directly between Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
Which is better for a 4-night trip, staying in Gulmarg or Pahalgam?
If you can only stay one night outside Srinagar, choose Pahalgam, because it is farther away and does not work as well as a day trip. Gulmarg is an easy day trip from Srinagar.
Can I add Sonamarg to a 4 nights 5 days package?
Only by dropping something else. Sonamarg is a full day trip from Srinagar. Most travellers keep it for a longer trip.
How much does a 4 nights 5 days Kashmir trip cost?
About ₹10,000–15,000 per person on a budget and ₹17,000–28,000 mid-range, without flights.
