Quick answerThe classic 5 nights 6 days Kashmir package is 2 nights Srinagar (one on a houseboat), 1 night Gulmarg and 2 nights Pahalgam. It costs about ₹12,000–18,000 per person on a budget, ₹20,000–35,000 mid-range and ₹45,000+ for luxury, excluding flights.
Five nights is the length most Kashmir packages are built around, and it is the first length where something wonderful happens: you get a day with nothing scheduled. No check-out, no long drive, no alarm. In Pahalgam, that day usually involves a riverside chair, the sound of the Lidder and a cup of noon chai that slowly goes cold because you forgot about it.
That is why the best 5-night plans give Pahalgam two nights. It is the farthest of the big valleys from Srinagar, and one night there means you spend most of your time arriving and leaving.
The 5 nights 6 days itinerary
| Day | Plan | Overnight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive Srinagar, houseboat, shikara ride at sunset | Srinagar houseboat |
| 2 | Mughal gardens, Shankaracharya Temple, drive to Gulmarg (1.5–2 hours) | Gulmarg |
| 3 | Gulmarg Gondola in the morning, return to Srinagar | Srinagar hotel |
| 4 | Drive to Pahalgam via saffron fields and Avantipora (about 3 hours) | Pahalgam |
| 5 | Aru and Betaab valleys by union taxi, slow afternoon by the Lidder | Pahalgam |
| 6 | Return to Srinagar airport (about 2.5–3 hours) | - |
Ending in Pahalgam means a 2.5–3 hour drive to the airport on the last day, so choose a flight after 2 pm. If your only flight is in the morning, swap the order: Pahalgam first, Gulmarg and Srinagar last.
Day by day
Days 1–3: Lake, gardens and the gondola
Start slowly on the houseboat. On day 2, see the Mughal gardens on the way out of Srinagar, then reach Gulmarg by afternoon for a walk on the meadow. Ride the gondola the next morning, before the clouds and the crowds arrive, and drive back to Srinagar for the night. Gondola tickets are online only, and phase 1 must be booked before phase 2.
Days 4–5: Two nights in Pahalgam
The drive to Pahalgam passes the saffron fields of Pampore (purple with flowers in late October and early November), the 9th-century Avantipora temple ruins and the cricket bat workshops of Sangam, where you can watch willow clefts being shaped. In Pahalgam, hire a union taxi for Aru Valley and Betaab Valley, each about 12–15 km from town. Your outside cab cannot take you beyond the hotel, so this is normal, not a trick.
What is closed: the Anantnag district's latest closure list (7 July 2026) includes Chandanwari and Baisaran, with an end date of 31 December 2026. Older itineraries still include them, so check any quote that does.
Day 6: Back to Srinagar
Leave Pahalgam after breakfast. If time allows, stop for kahwa and almonds at a roadside stall in the saffron belt; it is the most scenic way to delay saying goodbye.
Who the 5-night package suits best
- Honeymooners: two quiet Pahalgam nights are the most romantic part of the trip. See our honeymoon guide.
- Families: no day has more than about three hours in the car. Our family package guide has more tips.
- First-timers with a week off: five nights plus travel days fits neatly into seven days of leave.
Adding Sonamarg
Sonamarg does not fit comfortably into five nights. If it is a must, add a sixth night in Srinagar and do it as a day trip, which turns this into our 6 nights 7 days package.
What a 5 nights 6 days package costs
| Style | Stay | Per person (excluding flights) |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Standard houseboat, 2–3 star hotels, private sedan | ₹12,000–18,000 |
| Mid-range | Deluxe houseboat, 3–4 star hotels with river or meadow views | ₹20,000–35,000 |
| Luxury | Luxury houseboat, 5-star and boutique resorts, SUV | ₹45,000–90,000 |
Prices assume two people sharing, breakfast and dinner, and a private vehicle. Gondola tickets, union taxis and pony rides are extra. Our cost guide breaks these down.
Tip: In Pahalgam, a river-view room costs a little more but is worth it. You came a long way to hear the Lidder; do not settle for a view of the car park.
