Quick answerA 5-night Kashmir trip usually costs about ₹12,000–18,000 per person on a budget, ₹20,000–35,000 mid-range, and ₹45,000+ for luxury, excluding flights. Hotels and the cab are the two biggest costs.
Kashmir can suit almost any budget. The price of your trip depends mostly on three things: the season, the hotel category, and whether you hire a private cab. Below are typical 2026 prices so you can plan with realistic numbers. Rates change with the season, so treat these as ranges, not quotes.
Typical costs per night
| Stay type | Budget | Mid-range | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel in Srinagar | ₹1,500–3,000 | ₹3,500–7,000 | ₹10,000+ |
| Houseboat on Dal Lake | ₹2,000–3,500 | ₹4,000–8,000 | ₹12,000+ |
| Hotel in Gulmarg / Pahalgam | ₹2,000–4,000 | ₹5,000–9,000 | ₹15,000+ |
Prices are per room for two people, often with breakfast and dinner. Peak months (April–June and the Christmas–New Year week) can cost 30–50% more.
Transport costs
- Private cab for sightseeing: roughly ₹3,000–4,500 per day for a sedan, more for an SUV or Tempo Traveller.
- Airport transfer: about ₹800–1,500.
- Local union taxis: in Pahalgam (for Aru and Betaab) and Sonamarg (for Thajiwas and Zero Point) your outside cab cannot go further, so you pay union rates on the spot.
- Shikara ride on Dal Lake: rates are posted at the ghats; a one-hour ride usually costs a few hundred rupees per boat.
Activities and entry fees
- Gulmarg Gondola: phase 1 and phase 2 tickets are sold separately and online. Book ahead in season.
- Pony rides: fixed by local associations; agree the route and price before starting.
- Mughal gardens: small entry fees of a few dozen rupees.
- Skiing: equipment hire and instructors are charged per day in Gulmarg.
Food
A meal in a local restaurant costs about ₹250–500 per person. A full wazwan meal in a well-known Srinagar restaurant costs more, around ₹800–1,500 per person. Most hotel packages include breakfast and dinner, which keeps daily food costs low.
Sample budgets for 5 nights, per person
| Style | Stay | Approx. cost (without flights) |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | 2–3 star hotels, shared cab | ₹12,000–18,000 |
| Mid-range | 3–4 star hotels, private sedan, one houseboat night | ₹20,000–35,000 |
| Luxury | 5-star and boutique resorts, private SUV | ₹45,000–90,000+ |

Frequently asked questions
Is ₹20,000 enough for a Kashmir trip?
Yes, for a 4–5 night budget or lower mid-range trip per person, excluding flights, especially outside peak season.
Is Kashmir expensive for tourists?
Not compared with most hill destinations. Hotels and cabs cost about the same as in Himachal or Uttarakhand, and food is reasonably priced.
Are Kashmir tour packages cheaper than booking yourself?
Often, yes. Local operators get contracted hotel and cab rates that are lower than walk-in prices, especially in peak season.
Do I need cash in Kashmir?
Carry some cash for pony rides, union taxis and small shops. UPI and cards work in most hotels and restaurants in Srinagar.
