Quick answerOutside the festive week, a 4-night winter land package usually costs about ₹17,000–28,000 per person mid-range (two sharing, breakfast and dinner, private cab), similar to other seasons. The Christmas to New Year week costs noticeably more. Budget extra for snow coats and boots, sledges, the Gondola and ski lessons, plus flights.

Winter is not automatically more expensive in Kashmir. Early December, most of January and February can be fair value. What changes is the extras: you will spend on snow gear and activities, and heating matters when choosing a room.

Winter extras to budget for

  • Snow coat, trousers and boots: rented in Tangmarg or Gulmarg; agree the price per set.
  • Sledge rides: agree price and number of runs. See sledging.
  • Gondola: phase 1 and phase 2 are separate tickets. See the Gondola in winter.
  • Ski lessons and gear: see learning to ski.
  • Snowmobiles: rates fixed locally. See snowmobile rides.
  • Chains or 4x4 vehicles for Gulmarg after heavy snow.

How to save

  • Travel in early December, mid January or February rather than the festive week.
  • Book Gulmarg stays early for ski season weekends.
  • Rent one set of snow gear for the day you need it, not every day.
  • Book Gondola tickets only on the official site to avoid fake sellers.
