Quick answerManasbal Lake is about 30 km north of Srinagar in Ganderbal district and is known for lotus blooms in summer. Wular Lake, further north in Bandipora, is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia and a protected wetland. Together they make a calm day trip, best from May to October.
Most visitors never look north of Srinagar, which is good news for those who do. Manasbal is a quiet, deep lake fringed by villages and lotus; Wular is so big that on a hazy day it feels like the sea. Both are excellent for birdwatching.
