Quick answerMost Kashmir packages include hotels with breakfast and dinner, a private cab, airport transfers and sightseeing. They usually exclude flights, the Gulmarg Gondola, pony rides and the local union taxis in Pahalgam and Sonamarg. Always compare hotel names, meal plans and vehicle type, not just the price.

When you ask three operators for a Kashmir quote, you often get three very different prices. The difference is rarely magic: it is usually in the hotels, the vehicle, the meal plan and what is quietly left out. This checklist helps you compare like with like.

Usually included

  • Hotel and houseboat stays as per the itinerary.
  • Meals as per plan, usually MAP (breakfast and dinner).
  • A private vehicle for transfers and sightseeing.
  • Airport pick-up and drop.
  • Driver allowance, fuel, tolls and parking.
  • A shikara ride on Dal Lake (often one hour).

Usually not included

  • Flights or trains to Srinagar.
  • Gulmarg Gondola tickets.
  • Union taxis in Pahalgam (Aru, Betaab) and Sonamarg (Thajiwas, Zero Point).
  • Pony rides, sledges, skiing and rafting.
  • Lunches, entry fees and personal expenses.
  • GST, if the quote is shown "plus taxes".

Questions to ask before booking

  • Which exact hotels and houseboats are included, and which room category?
  • Is the cab private or shared, and which model?
  • Is the vehicle at your disposal on sightseeing days, or point-to-point only?
  • Are GST and all taxes included?
  • What is the cancellation and change policy?
  • Is there a local contact available on WhatsApp during the trip?

Tip: A cheaper quote with "similar hotels" and no hotel names is hard to compare. Ask for the names, then check their recent reviews.

Red flags

  • Very low prices in peak season without hotel names.
  • Full payment demanded long before travel with no written itinerary.
  • No physical office or local presence in Kashmir.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Gulmarg Gondola included in Kashmir packages?

Usually not, because tickets are bought online in the traveller's name. Some premium packages include it; check the quote.

Why can't my package cab go to Aru or Betaab Valley?

Local rules reserve those routes for Pahalgam's union taxis. Your driver will drop you at the stand, and you pay the union rate.

What does MAP mean in a Kashmir package?

MAP means breakfast and dinner are included at the hotel, but not lunch.

How much advance should I pay for a Kashmir package?

Usually 25–50% to confirm hotels, with the balance before or on arrival. Always get a written itinerary and receipt.
